Description

The label on verso has an alternate spelling of the artist's surname. The title on the same label is Summer View with Water, Boats in the Distance.
The lush brushwork and en plein aire appearance suggest a date of early 20th century, perhaps before 1920. Further, the canvas was purchased from Favor, Ruhl & Co which was an art supply dealer from the early 1800s through the early 1900s. They began in New York and later expanded to Chicago and Boston. The company stamp on the back of this painting includes Chicago and Boston which indicates that it was from the 1900s.
