About Us

Bellus Fine Art is an online art resource for individuals, designers, and corporations interested in starting or expanding a collection of fine art. We offer a carefully curated collection of 19th and 20th century American and European art, including many landscapes, marine scenes, and modern abstracts. With decades of collecting experience between us, we can guide both the new collector and the seasoned toward acquisitions that will reflect their individual taste and sensibilities.

Lesley Duncan, Partner

Lesley holds a MA in Art History from George Washington University and a BA in Art History from the University of Georgia. Her educational focus was on European paintings while her professional knowledge rests in American art of the mid-19th through mid-20th centuries. She has worked for the venerable Childs Gallery in Boston and Weschler’s, the Washington, DC auction house. Also in Washington, Lesley organized traveling museum exhibitions for The Trust for Museum Exhibitions. Among the galleries she was involved with in San Francisco was the online art gallery iTheo.com, which she founded in the late 1990’s.

Her personal collection includes a wide variety of works on paper and paintings ranging from a contemporary aquatint by Bay Area Figurative artist Nathan Oliveira, to a 19th century landscape by one of the founding fathers of the Provincetown Artist Colony, William Pearl Bodwell.

Ashby Anderson, Partner

Ashby has actively collected art for over thirty years, acquiring his first painting—a portrait by Connecticut artist William Sherman Potts—at the age of ten. Influenced by his seafaring hometown of Noank, Connecticut and his family’s long connection to the ocean, Ashby began collecting Connecticut marine paintings and developed a broad knowledge of New England’s renowned artist colonies of the late-19th and early-20th centuries.  His personal collection includes paintings by Reynolds Beal, Charles Harold Davis, Carl Lawless, Lars Thorsen, and George Albert Thompson.

Ashby has worked for several New England institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Mystic Seaport Museum, the Florence Griswold Museum and the auction house Skinner, Inc.  Ashby holds a MA from Dartmouth College and a BA from St. Lawrence University.
